Citizens Academy

Objective

The objective of the Spanish Fork Police Department Citizens Academy is to provide an environment where both citizens and members of the Spanish Fork Police Department can work together to create stronger relationships. The training will allow for citizens to have a better understanding of the challenging environment that police officers work in on a daily basis. The training will also provide an opportunity to open lines of effective communication between the Police Department and the citizens regarding any questions or concerns that they may have regarding police policies, procedures or actions that are taken.

The Spanish Fork Police Department Citizens Academy will cover the following topics:

  •  Department Structure and Assignments
  • Patrol Officer Skills and Functions
  • K-9 Operations
  • Drug Enforcement and Recognition
  • Investigations and Crime Scene Processing
  • Use of Force
  • SWAT
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations
  • Firearms

Course Information

The Spanish Fork Police Department Citizens Academy will take place over the course of 8 weeks. Training will typically be held one night each week in the evening for three hours. There will also be one training on a Saturday during the day. Training will include classroom instruction, practical application, and scenario-based training.

Participants in the training course will be limited to approximately 15 people in order to allow adequate opportunities for participants and to increase the engagement between participants and members of the department.

Qualification

  • 21 years of age
  • Citizen of Spanish Fork/Employed in Spanish Fork
  • Must be able to pass a background check

Liability Waiver

Upon acceptance to the Spanish Fork Police Department Citizens Academy participants will be required to review and sign a liability waiver regarding their participation in the program.
