What is CERT?
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) are trained volunteers to help communities mitigate disasters during and following a disaster when first responder’s efforts may be exhausted or delayed. The purpose of CERT training is to provide citizens with the basic skills that they will need to handle their own needs and then to respond to their community needs in the aftermath of a disaster.
What topics are included in the training?
In our training, we cover topics that include search and rescue, the CERT organization, first aid, disaster psychology, emergency preparedness, fire suppression, cribbing, the Incident Command System, utility control, and terrorism. This training helps you become self-sufficient when disaster strikes, allowing you to take care of yourself, your family, and the community.
How often are courses held?
Currently, we are offering the course twice a year. In October, and in April.
If you're interested, please go to this website https://cert.hazready.com/CourseCatalog and sign up for the online CERT program. Click on the RED register button. Take the online sections at your own pace, then email tsperry@spanishfork.org with your completed certificate. You are then ready to join the in-person class, which will be held every October and April. The in-person class costs $25, which covers your backpack, helmet, vest, safety glasses, work gloves, N95 mask, and more!
