Riding a horse is one thing, shooting a gun is another, but doing both at the same time. Cowboy Mounted Shooting is one of the nation's fastest growing equestrian sports. The fiery competitions are reminiscent of the Old West. Mounted contestants dress in period garb and race their horses around the arena, firing two .45 caliber single action revolvers at a series of 10 balloons. Each are loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition. Over two days, shooters will run six patterns. No one knows which six of the 50 plus patterns are until the day of the shoot. These courses are set in a variety of barrel racing style patterns. This requires the horse and rider to stop, turn, change leads and accelerate rapidly. Scoring is based on elapsed time plus a five second penalty for each target missed or barrel knocked over. An average course of fire normally takes a contestant between 15 and 30 seconds to complete. This fast action timed sport is as exciting and romantic as the old west itself.

Come meet identical twin sisters Janet Smith & Julie Jeppsen both native Spanish Fork residents. Janet a former Fiesta Days Rodeo Royalty and Julie a former Miss Spanish Fork. Now Members of the Utah Running Guns will be competing at this years Fiesta Days Shoot-out July 23 & 24
