Marvin L. Wharton and his wife, Dorry Lou, have lived in Spanish Fork for the past 7 years. Marvin was born and raised in small town Virginia about an hour out of Washington D.C. He had an honorable discharge from the Marine Corp. While in his 30's, he took advantage of the GI bill to get a degree in business management. Marvin worked long hours to support his family in both the private and public sector. Marvin loved owning his own business the most. He established his own insurance agency in Texas and a business supporting the construction industry in Virginia.
Marvin and Dorry Lou lived in Virginia, Massachusetts, Idaho, and Texas while raising their family of 5 daughters and 2 sons. They were eventually able to return to their home state of Virginia, where Marvin established a stair business and owned and operated a bed and breakfast with his wife, Dorry Lou. Marvin served as a councilman while living in Virginia.
The Wharton's sold their businesses and moved to Spanish Fork in 2004 to be closer to their adult children. Since that time, Marvin and Dorry Lou have served a mission for their church, remained active in their church community, published several books of personal history for their family and enjoyed the blessings of living in Spanish Fork, . They love the yearly events Spanish Fork sponsors and enjoy attending various cultural events. Marvin lives true to his duty to be an involved citizen of his town, state, and country. Retirement and a cross country move has not changed his willingness to serve or passion to do the right thing. Marvin stays current on issues coming before the Spanish Fork council. As a private citizen, he emails or attends many of the city meetings to discuss budget, zoning, the business community and various other issues facing Spanish Fork. He does not hesitate to call federal, state, or local representatives and encourage them to support bills that help Utah or America.
Marvin's passions in life involve anything to do with serving God and country, reading books and remembering history, with a special emphasis on the Revolutionary and Civil War. Marvin does not let his physical health problems of the past decade limit him in anyway. He continues to be an active advocate for keeping the USA living up to it's full potential. Marvin gives 100% to anything he does and the citizens of Spanish Fork will be well served with him as a councilman.
Why Are You Running For Spanish Fork City Council?
I would like to see Spanish Fork remain the beautiful town it is, while preparing for, and adapting to, the future. I am concerned with political apathy and would like to see the city council respond to citizen's concerns more consistently. I will be accessable and responsive to any citizen that contacts me with questions, to share concerns, etc. I will represent our citizens as a whole, without being a "yes man" to individual agendas.
We need to make certain our tax dollars are spent to benefit all of the citizens instead of small special interest groups. I have a lifetime of experience in building small business and would like to help Spanish Fork retain more of their retail dollars in our city.
