Sewer General Information

How to help Reduce Waste Water

The demand placed upon the wastewater reclamation facility can be greatly reduced by residents. Anything that could be thrown in the trash instead of down the drain would help alleviate the demand on the treatment plant. It is also much cheaper to put something in the trash than to put it down the drain. Anything that goes down the drain at your house eventually ends up in the treatment plant where it has to be biologically broken down. So here are some ways in which we can help:

  • Use garbage disposals sparingly. All those potato peels should really go in the trash, not down the drain.
  • Use less water. Try using water saving faucets and shower heads. Try putting something in the water tank of your toilet to displace the water. Your toilet will use less water, your water bill will be less and there will be less waste water to treat.
  • Don't use the toilet as a trash can. We oftentimes throw many things in the toilet that just as well could go in the trash, such as Q-tips.

Other helpful hints on how to conserve water can be found on our website on the water conservation page.
