Sewer Maintenance

Sewer Maintenance and Repair

Spanish Fork City's sewer collection system has an estimated 134 miles (708,000 ft) of sewer pipe in use. In order to properly maintain high-quality sanitation standards, and to prevent back-ups and other problems, a goal of the Sewer Department is to clean approximately half the sewer lines in town each year. We will also visually inspect every manhole every other year. Cleaning progress is tracked and reported quarterly. Video inspection is to be used at the time of construction, at 30 years, and every 15 years following. This will help us keep up-to-date on all of the current problems, as well as prevent future problems.

What can I do to help?

  • Do not flush grease or oils into the sewer system. These products build up inside the collection pipe and may cause the sewer main to plug.
  • Please try to avoid flushing feminine hygiene products and baby wipes into the sewer. Flushing of these products is the leading cause of sewer backups.
  • If we are working in your area and you smell an unpleasant odor in your house, it may be that your drains have been siphoned dry. To remove of the odor, just run water down the drain.
  • Do not flush any type of medication into the sewer. For information on proper disposal of medication please click here.
