About the General Plan

Spanish Fork City's General Plan provides a snapshot of Spanish Fork today, a vision for tomorrow, development policy guidance for decision-makers, and a work program that outlines the steps required to get from today to tomorrow. To respond to physical, environmental, economic, social, and demographic changes in the community, the City has embarked on an exciting process to update the General Plan.

The General Plan (comprehensive plan or master plan) is just that general. It designates certain parts of the city as residential, commercial, or industrial land uses. That's why you don't have to deal with a copper smelter, concrete batch plant or commercial mall in your back yard. It's also the reason you have to commute to work on grid locked streets. Because everyone is driving from their home in a residential zone to their work in a commercial or industrial zone.

The important thing about the General Plan, is that it keeps types and intensity of uses similar to each other. The General Plan sets the density of residential areas so your neighbor can't put a 82 unit apartment building next to your single family house. The General Plan also contains a phenomenal amount of information about the community as well as goals and policies to guide its development into the future.
