Spanish Fork, Utah — Around 6:23 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 Spanish Fork Fire & EMS was dispatched to a residential fire near 5800 S Palmyra Drive in Utah County.
The first unit arrived within minutes of the call being dispatched and saw smoke in the attic area of the home. Upon entering the home, crews found flames upstairs in the wall and were able to control the fire within 40 minutes.
A father and son were the occupants of the home. The father made the call to 911 after finding the fire in the chimney in the basement.
Crews believe the fire likely started in the fireplace chimney, which was used the night before by the occupants.
Both occupants were able to safely exit the structure and will be staying with family until they can reenter the home. Damages are estimated to be $250,000.
Spanish Fork Fire & EMS was assisted by Mapleton Fire, Salem Fire as well as Springville EMS, Central Utah 911, and Dominion Energy.
A total of three engines and two tenders responded to the call with 20 firefighters and three chief officers. Exactly how the fire spread up the wall is currently under investigation.
